Siddhartha Gautama, the sole child of a Nepalese ruler, was the birthplace of Buddha Shakyamuni. He gave up the comforts of his royal lineage at the age of 29 to become a religious nomad. He reached full enlightenment at the age of 35 after experiencing great insight into the fundamental nature of reality (Dharma).
