Green Tara is a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism, symbolizing compassion and protection. A thangka, a traditional Tibetan painting on cotton or silk, often depicts Green Tara seated in a graceful posture known as “lalitasana,” which signifies ease and readiness to help.

In a Green Tara thangka, she is typically portrayed with a green complexion, embodying the energy of enlightened activity. Her right hand is extended downward in the gesture of supreme generosity (varada mudra), while her left hand, held at her heart, forms the gesture of protection (abhaya mudra). Each hand holds the stem of a blue lotus (utpala), which blooms near her shoulders, symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening.
