The Chrengresi Mandala, also known as the Avalokiteshvara Mandala, is a profound symbol in Tibetan Buddhism. At its center is Avalokiteshvara, or Chrengresi in Tibetan, the bodhisattva of compassion, often depicted with eleven heads and a thousand arms. This central figure symbolizes his ability to perceive the suffering of all beings and to offer help simultaneously. Surrounding the central deity are concentric circles featuring lotus petals, flames, or vajras, which represent purity, protection, and the indestructible nature of compassion.
The mandala also includes a palace with four gates, each guarded by a pair of wrathful deities to protect the sacred space from negative influences. This palace symbolizes the mind of Avalokiteshvara, which is spacious, welcoming, and filled with compassion.
